Brionne’s PLAYA SHIT ONLY ep

Prior to the PLAYA SHIT ONLY ep, there was a rising level of anticipation that was present until recent state of affairs put everything at a stand stil for an obvious and necessary reason. Brionne took it upon herself to set the release date back, that was initially going to be May 31st. It wasn’t too long afterwards that the halted anticipation reappeared. Along with the visual for the her song, The Next Day, on her IGTV story , Brionne releases PLAYA SHIT ONLY, available on all platforms.

Palisade Drive Intro starts off the ep and as a consumer ready to hear spitfire bars, it’s not what I expected. Instead it’s an audio clip of Brionne experiencing the characteristics of an existential crisis followed by what making music means to her and the realization that there’s more to her life.

The tracks “Gospel” and “Good Morning” served as some fire teasers prior to the release; it sets the tone for what was to come in the release and sure enough the remainder tracks are equally impressive. The overall tempo of the 7 track project is smoother than ice cold Crown Royal Apple pouring out of it’s custom shaped glass bottle that’s been in the freezer all night. Brionne’s brand of raw and assertive lyrical flow and voice projection continues to strive throughout the duration of Playa Shit Only. “2am in the studio” is a whole mood in itself as it’s casts a mellow vibe with the help of featured artist HRTBRKJNZ R&B vocals on the tail end of the track. “Keep it on me” featuring Spike Chester is an instant classic in Brionne’s discography as both artists let their impeccable verses loose all over the contemporary hip hop instrumental. “Out the way” is an solo track that ends off the 18 min project in way that made me want more, almost as if I felt the ep was too short to my liking. Regardless, this is some of Brionne’s finest work yet.
