Pat Ron & Coach Tev’s collaborative ep Shut up & Rap

Months ago, I sat in my usual spot on my 1960’s orangish brown couch with floral designs embedded into the cushions as I watched the Daily Ooze podcast on YouTube featuring Pat Ron and Coach Tev. I can’t tell you what the topics of conversation were nor who else was involved in the podcast, primarily due to the overflowing thoughts of Pat Ron and Coach Tev collaborating on a project. In those moments, my imagination was fixated on the result of both artists in the studio. I imagined it would be an instant classic, like two established 18th century painters working together on an legendary work of art. Unbeknownst to me, my thoughts were in the process of fruition. On the day of the Shut Up and Rap was released , I rubbed my eyes twice and refreshed my Twitter to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. Sure enough, my eyes were indeed correct; Pat Ron and Coach Tev’s ep, Shut up and Rap, isn’t a figment of my imagination anymore. It’s reality.
Prior to opening up my Apple Music app to thoroughly enjoy the ep, I felt a sense of refreshment; the very talented and highly favored lyricists of DFW joining forces to create an wonderful piece of art that will last. Before pressing play, there was a small bit of anticipation with a mixture of excitement and curiosity.
Shut Up and Rap is 6 songs deep and tops off at a smooth 22 minutes. The title in itself is cut and dry, straight to the meat and potatoes, no filter. For new listeners, it oozes with the expectations of superb lyricism, to which Pat Ron and Coach Tev effortlessly oblige.
Coach Tev’s voice is the first artist to greet my ear canals off of the track When in Rome. What I finally discovered about Coach Tev’s delivery is that it puts a grip on my attention is the level of maturity that plays a vital component to his signature laid- back, non confrontational flow. It’s also very well defined & difficult to replicate. When Pat Ron chimes in, later in the song, I’m reminded of why he is Pat Ron the Rap God. Pat Ron possesses a brand of confidence that radiates in his lyricism and his voice. His versatility is a chill lyrical breeze yet the way he relentlessly he handles his bars makes it seem easier than a brisk walk through the suburbs. It is almost as if rap is second nature to him. What I like about the track Shut up and Rap is the overall “take no shit” attitude and the Daily Ooze cameo appearance. A favorite track that’s on heavy rotation is B- Roll: the beat itself is seductive to the ear and the proper execution from both artists created a track that inspires a higher level of cool and swag.
The production behind this ep was tailored specifically for Coach Tev and Pat Ron. Natural vibrations were heard and felt throughout this ep. From beginning to end, this project is a heavyweight contender, tough to beat. Although each track had its own characteristic and without saying too much, the cleverness and catchiness that each artists possessed in their bars is extremely difficult to go unnoticed; it’s undoubtedly skillful. What stood out to me was the ability of these two artists in particular to be in sync with each other, to feed off of each other, from verse to verse. This project from the duo makes a ton of sense, that’s what gravitates new listeners; as soon as an individual is introduced to the content & how well is flows together, they’re hooked. Shut Up and Rap is too cool to pass up
