Casualities of a protest

In the past two weeks, protests have erupted all over the nation to put an immediate stop to police brutality that has left a trail of blood and fatalities of African American individuals. Citizens that have attended the protest are surrounded by a very high level of danger as the presence of the police is followed by tear gas, swinging batons and multiple arrests. Saturday, May 30 proved to be one the most hectic days during consistent protests in multiple cities across the U.S.

Around 2 pm, DFW photographer Sanfedrick was attending the protest that took place in front of city hall in Dallas, Texas, with a group of friends. They were present because they are tired of the lives lost by the hands of the police. Sanfedrick explains that at first the protest were peaceful until the police arrived and the protest turned into a hostile environment.

Tear gas was the weapon of choice for the police to use to disperse the crowd. Protestors scattered to neighboring streets to avoid coming in contact with tear gas. Unfortunately, Sanfedrick got a taste of tear gas and he describes it as “terrible”. When he and his friends ran over to the next street, they stumbled upon a group of people yelling about an injured man who has been shot in the face by the riot police. Sanfedrick and his friends quickly ran over to the man and before calling his girlfriend for medical advice, he quickly snapped the photo of the injured man on ground.

In more recent news, protests with less police presence has been deemed peaceful as opposed to earlier attempts of protests. Lifted curfews have taken place and there have been less reports of injuries and casualties. Below are a few more photos by Sanfedrick
