K. Breezy the Great: Ratchet Diary

From the moment I became aware of the talented female artist K. Breezy, I was impressed by her versatility and admired her energy, her exuberance behind the mic. Aside from the Pop That ( Dallas Remix), K. Breezy’s visual for her song, Savage, diverted my attention to her discography, and needless to say that I was pleased to hear that her music met my expectations. K. Breezy’s native Dallas tongue sounds like home to my ears, her confidence that can be mistaken for mild arrogance backed behind her talent in lyricism won me over. From there on, I became a fan of her work. I detected her versatility from her entire 2020 album, Your Favorite Ratchet Homegirl, and in the songs; You’re a hoe, Yes, we’re F*****g and Worst Memory, as they display an R&B vibe, as opposed to her more vibrant bangers such as Steal My Drip, Pop That, and F*** You, I’m From Dallas.

Her latest album Ratchet Diary features her softer, vulnerable interior behind her tougher exterior. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear her music take on a different approach, hence the album title. The first song Smile feat Nitae opens up the album and in a way sets the tone for the rest of the album. What I have come to realize as I dived deeper into the album is Nitae’s strong presence throughout the album in its entirety. Every song Nitae is featured on seems to portray another diary entry from K. Breezy as their contrasting style come together to create the smoother songs on this album. Love, relationship, heartache, the trials and tribulations of life are chronicled by the duo in the songs Stepper, Homicide Headache, Smile, and Always Be. Although Ratchet Diary is a bit more emotional from its preceding albums and ep, K. Breezy maintains her spunk and attitude in songs Put that shit on, Blocked, and Fuck Everybody. Fans on K. Breezy know all too well that she isn’t shy to display her erotic, sexual energy as she lets it all out in songs Pop my P***y feat. DJ Chose, Head Hunters feat Lil Ronny Motha F and Slow. Playaz Anthem is a real treat in my humble opinion as digs into the familiar tale of lust into love interest as it features Nitae and Dallas hip hop artist Tye Harris.
