Get2gether’s latest single release and more

Unbeknownst to me, the hyper-pop genre has been flooding the airwaves for quite some time now and it’s capturing the ears of the younger generation by storm. My daughter, being the music lover that she is, has introduced me to a plethora of artists including Midwxst, 100 Gecs, angelus, D0llywood1, 8485, and many more artists with interestingly peculiar aliases. Personally, I enjoy this new genre, it possesses the potential to last for a very long time as its popularity is growing at a rapid rate. As I indulge a bit into hyper pop, I discovered a young, multi-talented Canadian pop artist Get2gether and his recent single, She said she wanna kill herself, along with his 2020 ep Bloom.
Influenced by artists Glaive and Ericdoa, She said she wanna kill herself isn’t what I expected to occupy my ears. The upbeat tempo of indie rock with hyper pop elements and undertone, the title, and the hook of the song is in complete contrast with the tempo and energy of the song. The mismatch combination of contrasting lyricism and corresponding sound of this song is something that I have noticed every so often in music created by the young generation as a whole. Get2gether gives a brief explanation to Bored of the contrast: in creating the hook, his thoughts fell back into the past as he reminisces his previous relationships of being treated poorly which ultimately lead him to lack emotion for his previous lovers, the verses consisted of him merely having fun as he talks about his current relationship.
Along with the discovery of the single, I tapped into his 2020 album, Bloom. The album in its entirety is centered around his adolescent years in South Africa. Introspective, Bloom expresses the hardships and experiences that Get2gether has faced that ultimately prepared him to be the artist that he is today. Dealing with vulnerabilities of troublesome relationships, intuition blurred by untrustworthy peers, mental incapabilities, and hiding behind intoxication & other transgressions to ease the struggles of life, Get2gether tells us that he doesn’t shy away from giving his fans raw emotion through his music. “There is always pain in my lyrics but I wanted to be real with them [fans] so I speak about very real situations and experiences,” he says. In the production behind Bloom, Get2gether didn’t have any other influences that helped with creating the sound. With his innate talent, he started to experiment with the fusion of contemporary r&b, neo-soul, and pop, as opposed to his hip-hop background. Alongside his friend and engineer Sai, the duo were the only two that had their hands in the project, from the production to the mix and mastering.
