Drain shakes the globe with newly released LP California Cursed

One of the first few times I grasped on to Drain was late last year. The Santa Cruz hardcore quintet and Santa Cruz Skateboards teamed up to recreate the poster featuring old school skater Rob Roskopp soaring over the SST band hardcore punk band, Bl’ast. As a skater, I thought it was the coolest thing ever to see a piece of skateboarding history not only revisited but recreated in the modern day. Accompanied by Santa Cruz skater Henry Gartland flying over the band as they played, they perfectly captured the shot, I just wondered how many time the photo taken to get the perfect shot. I assumed the photographer used the Continuous mode on the camera setting and held down the shutter button. Instanteously, I realized that Drain was signed to Revelation Records and has close ties to Santa Cruz skateboards, it all made sense from there.

Since then, the band had been getting an insane amount of attention, but let’s not forget that they have been putting in work before then. Drain followed the blueprint of a hard working, diy hardcore punk band: constantly on the road, performing nothing less of wild chaotic shows nationwide and killing every festival they step foot into.

Late last week, Drain grabbed the world by its balls as they released their new lp, California Cursed. 10 songs deep and 22 minutes, California Cursed possesses the raw and extremely energetic feel of what true hardcore really is. It’s truly a fun joyride to listen to as the band strays always from hardcore’s growing popularity in death metal vocals/metalcore riffs and maintains the spirit of early west coast hardcore. Along with the lp release, they released a wild performance video for California Cursed.
