Friday Afternoon Vibe: Cana!

It just so happened that I was strolling through Instagram and noticed a picture that carried the early 90’s nostalgic couples photo aesthetic with hispanic women as the focal point of the image. Without reading the post directly below the image, I couldn’t help but to assume it was the cover for music related to the image. After a brief moment I proved myself right. As any fan of good music would do, I began my search to figure out more details. In that moment, I was grateful to have social media as a tool to find new music. It was then that I found the duo, Johnny Garcia and Danica Salazar aka Cana!

In the past 4-5 years, I have noticed a rise in the flourishing urban Latinx community of musical creatives. From Luna Luna, Chroma, Soulzay, Katarina Arriaga and many others, the Latinx community features their strong cultural influences and fused it with the sounds of popular music and created some of the most refreshing music. When I first laid my ears on Cana!’s release, R U In Luv?, I felt that the warm nostalgia of the 90’s swoop in and take me out of my seat to do the shuffle. Growing up in that era, I sent me back to when music was filled with substance and mixed with the sound to accommodate. This track embellishes the right amount of synth/ dream pop with Latinx flavor and enough bop to make get up and move. Check out their previous single, Quarantined in Love, available on multiple DSP’s. I’m eager to hear more music from the duo, they produce feel- good tunes perfect for a Friday afternoon.
