So What?! Festival tickets on sale, Frozen Soul brings the blizzard home and more

It feels like this year is moving by faster than you can spot hardcore discourse on Twitter. If you are an individual like myself, who pays attention to what’s going on all over the nation, there is an overstimulating amount of amazing shows and festivals being announced. There are a few national festivals I wish I was able to attend but would be impossible to do, unless I had a gang of clones. Anyways, I’m going to talk about a couple in my surrounding area.
So What?! Music festival
Roughly 24 hours ago, The annual North Texas SO WHAT?! Music Festival announced the dates, along with releasing the flyer. To get your tickets, tap the image of the flyer above. It’s been a long while ( few years from as far as I can remember) since I’ve became aware of the So What festival. I remember the year Power Trip was playing the festival, I stumbled upon photos of their set and wondering who put something like that together. From then, my attention gravitated towards in the festival in the following years. It is truly impossible to ignore the diversity in the festival line up. It’s obvious to see it leans over the alternative, heavier genres of music like a willow tree, nonetheless the lineup is fun for everyone,
What I like to point out is the amount of local Texas bands performing or performed at So What. The amount of local representative at an event as big is this, is by far the coolest thing ever. Friends sharing the stage with other talented stars , old and new, couldn’t make many an prouder. This year Ballista, Mass Appeal, Deep Incision are set to play Sunday, June 25. Seeing local bands that make up the DFW hardcore scene on line up as cool as this induces one of the best feelings to the heart.
Without spending a lot of time on this, look at this array of music artists performing at SO WHAT!?. Yes, I understand it is a festival and festivals are supposed to contains a huge range in music but this lineup is wild. It looks like way too much fun for one person. This event compels you to pile all of your friends in the vehicle and hightail it to the show. I want to mention how wild it is to see The Used is going to perform. Wow, talk about nostalgia. That brings up all middle school/high school days of my urban, alternative, youth. Body Box, No Zodiac, Section H8, Body Snatcher, Oceano, Jeleel and Slaughter To Prevail caught my attention immediately, those sets are going to be fun. The way I feel about The Used is the same way I feel about Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Thursday and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. When I see GBC, Nascar Aloe, Jasiah, Lil Bubblegum, Lil Darkie, Poorstacy, I think about the young demographic those artist appeal to. I can see the kids having so much fun when those artist hit the stage. My only hope is they will drink enough water. They are a good amount of bands I am aware of, I don’t know their music but I know people are going to lose their marbles over: Escape the Fate, Fit for an Autopsy, Forever the Sickest Kids, Breathe Carolina, Sleeping with Sirens, We The Kings. Frozen Soul brings the blizzard back home
Lets keep it a buck folks, Frozen Soul is always on tour, they never come home. They don’t pull up anywhere or come by and say hey to their day ones, none of that. Always on the road and forgetting about the little people. It’s ok because I am only joking, I just seen Michael not too long ago in Denton at the Judiciary show ( it’s amazing to see how far he came). What I will say is they are always on badass tours with some of the most amazing artists hardcore and metal. We are in the beginning of May so this is going on as we speak but Texas’ coldest death metal is back home with a handful of giants including The Black Dahlia Murder, Terror and Fuming Mouth. Make sure to tap the image above to purchase a ticket now! If you’re in your late 20’s/ early 30’s and has been around in the DFW hardcore for quite sometime, then would agree how awesome it is to see Chad Green share the stage with Terror and BDM.
Speaking of Frozen Soul…
The real ones know the metalhead/ gamer pipeline is stronger than hell. Stated in the Decibel Magazine interview, majority of the members in Frozen Soul bring their Nintendo Switch with them on the road during tour. This is true 90’s kid/millennial behavior at its finest; a group of headbangers getting busy on their handheld gaming consoles with rocking stages all over the world. One of the coolest things about this the band is teaming up with Century Media for the dopest giveaway I could’ve ever imagine. Together, they are giving away a Glacial Domination wrapped Nintendo Switch, right before the new album release on May 19th, get your pre order here
