P$O Kwama & Graham Malice- 214 to your city

As I sit back on my front porch enjoying the Sunday afternoon vibes, I have my ears attending to the 214 To Your City ep for the second time. The ep in it’s entirety is the end result as to what happens when you properly articulate a plethora of musical influences, elements and creative visions, packed into 12 minutes with smooth transitions into each song. 214 to your city is a true reflection of the many aspects in the Dallas hip hop culture; bold, unique, creative and astonishingly talented.

For non-residents, 214 to your city can be viewed as an ep that was curated to dedicate itself to the Triple D, the beautiful city of Dallas, courtesy of the highlighted, narrative parts by Rodney Blu. This ep contains two artists I haven’t come across until I gave the ep a listen: Pwo Kwama, Brooklyn raised artist who is currently in Dallas with a niche for catchy hooks and melodic flows, and an Caribbean household background and Graham Malice, the LA born artist that comes armored with a wide range of versatility and style under his belt for any creative proposition. This collaborative project couldn’t have been complete without the help of the rising Dallas producer Capshun.

It becomes apparent to me as to why 214 To Your City is a bombardment of variety. Capshun’s skill set behind concocting his instrumental stems from the usage of multiple elements of different genres, pilling it into one beat with organization. What is most appreciated is his ability to make it sound just right without it being overboard. Pwo- Kwama and Graham flex their artistry with their own individually established styles to properly deliver on each song. Distance is the first track I consider to be my favorite. It captures the seductive component of alternative r&b and partners with a simple yet saucy hip hop beat. Change Your Life features a special guest feature for the additional flare in the outer; guitarist and vocalist Yellow Jones.
