Sparkshimmer- Songs to confine to

It wasn’t until I moved to Denton, Texas is when I discovered my love for the indie sub genre known as shoegaze. The obscure combination of hazy guitar distortion and its ethereal effects, the lo fi swirling vocals and low tempo rock genre captured my ears and maturity with a dash of open mindedness slipped into my recent years. I’m sure I would be a fan of shoegaze years ago had I not been so adamant on filling my playlists with heavy music. As time passed, I become a bit infatuated with the genre as I took it upon myself to dive down the genre’s rabbit hole. Satisfied, I have yet to grow weary of shoegaze and I don’t plan on it. Excited struck me through an Twitter DM containing Denton’s indie pop/ shoegaze band, Sparkshimmer.

Sparkshimmer consist of two members: Sabrina Tionloc and Charles W. Knowles. According to Charles, the band was conceived from a few conversations and sharing musics files between the band member until their debut ep, Songs to Confine to, reached completion. Heavy influences from their predecessors including , Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine , Cocteau Twins and Slowdive, Songs to confine to embodies the popular characteristics of shoegaze, dream pop and indie pop with and songwriting relatable to the somber Millenial. Stylistically unique, Songs to confine to infiltrates and caresses my ear drums with Sabrina’s soothing indie vocal tracks, distinctive bass line and consistent crashing of the cymbals.
