Sean Alxndr’s Channel Blu

Sean Alxndr’s Channel Blu

It’s roughly 12 in the afternoon on my day off and the winds are blowing in the south/southeast direction on this early August day. Tons of new music dropped today, which compels the thought that the pandemic isn’t knocking the hustle of strong willed creatives. With my AirPods in and a nice glass of ice water, I indulge myself for the third time into Sean Alxnder’s latest release, Channel Blu.

Like many DFW artists that make up the eccentric hip hop scene, Sean Alxndr showcases a smooth and relaxing approach in Channel Blu, sonically (with the exception of the intro). The vibe and the sound alone can bring ease to a tumultuous day, favorable to those who oppose of hard hitting street bangers. What I truly enjoy about this ep is the level of intellect, introspect and wit that Channel Blu contains. The 4 track ep is short and compact but it features lyricism that contains a deeper, less superficial meaning. Sean’s goal in this project is to give his fans an auditory inside scoop into his mental health as each track presents a a different aspect of his struggle. In his words, this is “An ode to my bad coping mechanisms”. Two tracks in particular: Up featuring 23 cups, produced by Jusamelody and Plenty produced by Daily Breed. Up is the track showcases Sean struggle with anxiety; the wit and cleverness in 23 cups’ negative affirmations used in the track, along with Sean’s relatable lyricism and the production makes the track a true stand out. Plenty is the melodic, r&b infused track that features another aspect; self isolation. Introverted and reserved, Plenty can be translated in a form of self preservation.
