Love You Later’s latest ep, Heaven Is Without You

Witnessing an artist’s growth from their early stages is inspiring, especially when the artist shows progression. What keeps my interest is when you are able to go through an artist’s discography, whether it’s small or large, and perceive each body of work as a diary entry in the artist’s life. The artist becomes transparent and you as the fan feels as though you’re growing up with the artist. When I became aware of Heaven I Without You, I revisited the ep released two years prior, How Many Nights Do You Dance With Tears In Your Eyes, first. For those who don’t know, How Many Nights Do You Dance With Tears In Your Eyes was the first ep Love You Later released on all streaming platforms and it featured some of the most sincere lyrical content that has tugged on my heart strings in a while. Songs like Emily, the indie dream pop heartbreaking ballad about falling for someone who has someone else on their mind, is one of the most viewed songs that describes how vulnerable and delicate the vibe the ep portrays.
Afterwards, I was ready to listen to Heaven Is Without You. 5 songs deep and stretches over 16 mins, the ep is a bit more upbeat and fun with a little more spunk, as opposed to its predecessor. What I’m glad to hear is the level of sincerity hasn’t changed in the lyrical content, it just merely took a different direction. It seems as if there is a more of a “free spirit” vibe in this ep. That’s the way it goes starts off the project with a catchy, singalong chorus that creates a vibrant pop tune. I really enjoyed Blindfolded, mid tempo dance pop song that shows fans that the band is here to spread their wings. Interestingly enough, Love you later revisited the track Emily and made an alternate version that I thoroughly was pleased with, just enough to favor it over the original version.
