It was a few months ago that I became aware of a growing hip hop and r&b scene on the rise in Arkansas. Prior to this discovery, i only associated Arkansas with a few things: Johnny Cash, a few metal bands and the Hope Watermelon festival. My lack of knowledge catapulted my curious nature to other surrounding states for whatever reason. My introduction to Arkansas artists was the rap group Gudda Boy Gang (Tuka, 727 Fatboy, Shaun G and SG Santana) and their music video “We da oppz” available on YouTube. From there, I was fully aware of the blossoming music scene full of young artists with hunger and determination to make a name for themselves in a state that can easily be overlooked.

Enter J1hunnit, South Arkansas recording artist that possessy the work ethic of a starving creative ready to take his career to new heights. I assume he has exceptional networking skills as he’s normally seen in Dallas linking up with artists or in the middle of shoot a music video. Hard work doesn’t scratch the tip of the iceberg for J1hunnit, he’s not new to the music and it’s culture as I noticed he has been putting work for some time now. His latest video “Trap Nap” features a bit of a style switch from his older music in his catalogue. The piano keys in the beginning of the video indicated to me that Trap Nap wasn’t going to be a club banger. The r&b infused track shows new fans that not only is Jhunnit talented but flexible in the creative sense. With lyrical content containing the growing level of maturity and self sufficiency in response to survival of the street/urban lifestyle, Trap Nap is a song that can hit home for those of a similar background.
