Dallas hip hop artist Coach Tev is outchea putting in work
If you are from Dallas, Texas and you haven’t heard of Coach Tev, one of the hardest working hip hop artist of this generation, then you’re suffering from the severe lack of “missing out” (even that’s an understatement). Every since I was tuned into his music in 2019 at the FreeBase festival in Denton, I was impressed by not only his work ethic but his very clear and smooth flow. His natural talent in art of lyricism, along with his use of proper enunciation and mellow vibe in his tone of voice makes it easy for him to become one of my favorite current artists. You don’t have to take my word for it, just listen to his current body of work “Coach of the Year” available on all platforms.
In the midst of the world pandemic that grabbed us by the ankles and flipped us on our necks, Coach Tev released new music and videos for our auditory and visual pleasure during this untimely “March Madness”. First, he released the song “FreakNik” and the corresponding video. In the video, it’s appears that artist Coach Tev, along with fellow artists SighRocSpliff, Devy Stonez and Cush With A C are amongst other beautiful, black DFW creatives at a social gathering, assuming its a kickback/show considering there’s a Dj with his MacBook on a table and a gentleman speaking into a microphone. As the video starts, nostalgia steps in as the VCR visual effect sets. The gentleman on the microphone starts off telling the attendees to support the local scene and support black businesses. From there, the video starts and each artist spit straight flames over the beat, check it out for yourself
The second video Tev releases is for his single Robin, a solo track off of his album. The creativity behind this video is impressive as the various scenes jump all over the place from Tev performing stretching techniques on a young , yellow bone woman, to rapping in behind leafless trees with friend, to standing on the edge of a water park slide to solo scenes in a trophy room etc. The quality of the video is quite nice for being low budget, it’s closely resembled a short film.
