Ep Review: Landon Sandefur’s “Before I Go”

I was attending and shooting photos for Ashxs multi-genre event #DEEPROOTS when I discovered Landon. As he stepped on stage, I was very curious to listen to what he was about to perform. To my surprise, he started singing in the mic and I enjoyed every minute of it. It through me off a little that he showed up on stage looking like he just left a serious business meeting. Nonetheless, I had to exchange words with the singer. I was safe to say that I became a fan of his art.

I took the time to listen to his ep “Before I go” a week after the event and in writing this review, I’m going to take a different approach and focus more of my attention on the content. The ep is equipped with 5 songs and lasts for roughly 16 mins. For the most part, Landon uses his soothing voice to reel me into his vulnerabilities and his personal experiences, with the exception of a few songs where he exercises his ability to rap. I would describe this project as a small series of ballads that doesn’t end in his favor. Very emotional and sincere, you can obviously tell he’s reminiscing about the heart aches and the heartbreaks of the women ( or it could be one woman) of his past. From the pop/r&b vibe to the exceptional mix / mastering and engineering, this ep is sonically pleasing. My favorite song is “Special”, an acoustic ballad that tells a story of his past love interest that royal messed him up and left him questioning his self worth. Sheesh… it gets you in the feels if you’re able to relate. I’d love to hear what his future holds if he continues his music career
