Check it out! Arkansas death metal Sun Descends Black

Arkansas. I believe I visited Arkansas at least once in my life. Probably twice. I’m thinking too much into it so let’s continue. Besides Johnny Cash, Bill Clinton and the Ozarks, I don’t know much about the neighboring state. As of today, I can add another thing on my small list of “what do I know about Arkansas”, death metal band Sun Descends Black from Little Rock. I used the term “death metal “ but that would place the band under an umbrella that they don’t necessarily fall under.
After the intro, the ep comes blasting out the gate, very death metal- esque. I credit the band’s drummer Dookie, the talent he possesses behind the drum kit is impressive to me. Throughout the ep, the thunderous repetition of the double kick drum fires off and it’s satisfying. That gets a large amount of brownie points in my book. As the project continues, a fan of extreme music can point out elements of grind core here and there. There’s also a bit of sludge metal lodged in there. Although I’m a fan of short songs, I’d say my favorite track would be Sculptures of Death, simply because the slower parts of the song. I enjoy how sludgy the filled in the gap.
