New DFW releases 7/29
As July is reaching its end- things are heating up in the metroplex. If you leave you a 7/11 slushie outside, by accident, for 20 seconds, it will melt into hot sugar water. North Texas has been swelting in 100 degrees as usual. The UV rays are brazenly disrespectful and each gust of wind feels like hot dragon breath. Speaking of hot, DFW is ending the month with two new bands that have dropped a couple of hot releases. Go grab your oven mittens for these.
PriestPfister- God’s Gift, Dead at Birth EP
A couple of weeks ago, members of Ballista, Casket Breath, True Grit, Nitro, Force of Will, etc dropped a vicious project, available on Apple, Spotify and Bandcamp. If I could characterize the release, I would say it nearly came out of left field, like a lovely TA DA! moment. Simultaneously, the band announced they will play one show only; Back to School Drive/ August 16th
God’s Gift, Dead at Birth Ep is a short listen. Coming in with a hot 5 piece combo and roughly 9 mins, this project is jam packed with terrifying aggression. Imagine getting served an entree with violence as the main dish, a side of sinister , sprinkle some vengeance on there. For dessert, menacing. The ep contains the necessary elements of power violence, and grind to deliver a masterclass in intimidation. The hardcore punk attitude and tendency to express disdain for the government and eradication of the rich is at the forefront here, with a two step/ side to side part nestled in there. The low tempo breakdowns presented in this ep have a threatening character to it. Overall, this ep is enjoyable, its heavy, two thumbs up material.
Immortal Cry- Demonstration
Immortal Cry is a brand spanking new band coming out of Ft Worth ( H817, if you will). For those who don’t know, H817 is a moniker representing distinction in heaviness for hardcore bands sharing the 817 area code. Members from various bands including Ritual Abuse, Hatred Creation, Concrete Cage etc., have come together to form their version of metallic hardcore with noticeable influences, catering to the soldiers in the pit.
The band has dropped a two song ep, running roughly 7 minutes long, available on all streaming platforms. Right out of the gate, this project is tough, to say the least. It carries a sturdy, heavyweight energy, “ dog eat dog” aura. What sticks out to me is there is a slow roasted , beefy tone behind the breakdowns , adding an evil characteristic to the band’s sound, giving it a stout flavor. Packed in with the necessary heavy hardcore elements to maintain its roots, Immortal Cry is off to a good start. Their first official show will be opening up for Merauder, Sept 6th at Haltom Theatre.
