Home by Dawn, an ep featuring Coach Tev, Blake Cris, & J08’s

I’ve spent the past two days giving my undivided, in most cases, attention to the Home by Dawn, the collaborative ep featuring artists Coach Tev, Blake Cris and producer J08’s. During the early Sunday hours, just after the crack of dawn, I spent my morning at the skatepark executing effortless tailslides on various obstacles with the ep on heavy rotation in my AirPods. It’s extremely difficult to make a decision on a favorite track: this body of work in its entirety is smoother than the feeling of getting brand new Bones reds bearing put inside fresh size 52mm Spitfire wheels and gliding across Roanoke’s concrete skatepark.

Whenever I open up Spotify and play music by Tev, I give his tunes the same ear as I would give Drake. Impeccable lyricism with confident, mellow flows is his trademark so it’s obvious as to why Home by Dawn captured my attention. The cherry on top of the banana split was the production that fit like a shoe to Tev’s flow.Artist and producer Blake Cris caught my attention on a couple of occasions; at the Vibes Texas Kickback earlier this year and his summer 2020 release Blue Magic. His role in Home by Dawn came in clutch behind producing the songs “Sideways”,” Bad Advice” and “Baby Mama”. “Nimitz Sweater” is produced by producer J08’s, who also produced “ Ay Dios Mio” and “Robin” from Tev’s 2019 album, COTY. Although this ep is contains the songs that didn’t make the cut for the forthcoming album by the trio and were written and recorded between 2017-2018, artists like Tev create timeless music, so despite of the original written and recording date, the relevancy still holds strong.
