Denton’s death metal quintet Kombat releases New Dimensions of Pain

In the past month, DFW has been flooding local ears with new releases and playlists curated with hometown flavor to help maintain sanity through these questionable times. Denton’s death metal band Kombat brings the goods as they release “New Dimensions of Pain” on YouTube and Bandcamp. Before I go any further, I just want to mention my unbiased opinion about heavy music coming from Texas, DFW area in particular. Texas has its own brand of death metal that stands out in degrees of heaviness and is proven to be distinguishable.

Kombat follows suit with their predecessors as they deliver their body of work with an upgrade in production that presented an astonishing difference in contrast from their demo in 2017. New Dimensions of Pain is sonically exquisite as listeners get a healthy dose of thunderous double bass drums and nicely executed death metal riffage that will intrusively fill your headphones. In comparison, Kombat unleashed a beast that laid dormant in its cage for a while and has been dying to let loose. This ep is no holds barred as Grant did an outstanding job in maintaining the task being the band’s backbone with the flawless execution on drums with Ray and AJ kill it on lead and rhythm guitar, Todd applying the pressure on bass and Nathaniel laying down crucial, bone crushing vocals over the instruments.
