Dallas artist Brionne releases ep titled “23 the ep”

As we all know, the music industry (in this case, rap and hip- hop) is oversaturated with the male species swinging their dicks around and making a name for themselves. To me, it’s usually refreshing to hear a woman’s voice spitting hot fire into a studio mic behind an instrumental. For the most part, it’s intriguing to hear women show off their rhyming talent. From generations prior to the current generation, women were always a force to be reckoned; from the early days I can remember female artists like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte killing it on the mic. From there, it was Lil Kim, Gangsta Boo, Missy Elliot, Eve, Trina and many many others that hold the torch. These days we have artists like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Lizzo, Megan thee Stallion, Rico Nasty and Saweetie that are paving the way for this generation. Whether they use their sexual appeal, insane amount of energy or their feminine touch on the mic, women in the hip hop world are here to stay. Like it or not female artists ( some say “femcee”) motivate and inspire young women across the globe to be truly be themselves and not take any crap from what any man has to say.
My attention has brought me to a young female artist from Dallas that goes by the name Brionne. I don’t know much about her right now other than she released an ep titled “23 the Ep”. I assume she titled it 23 because she recently turned 23? I’m not sure, I could be totally wrong. If she ends up reading this review and I AM wrong, I hope she doesn’t get too upset. If so, please forgive my ignorance. The ep contains 6 songs and is roughly 15 minutes, it fits perfect with my short attention. I played Brionne’s twice before realizing it was that short. Off top, the first thing I listen for when it comes to listen to new artist is how well their voice lays off a track. Brionne’s voice lays off quite well over the music. It’s smooth and digestible, I’m able to turn the volume all the way up and it doesn’t feel like she is yelling at me. What I also like about this artist/ ep is the sense of confidence that’s laidback but just enough to let you know she’s nothing to play with. She comes in hard on the first two tracks with “Wish a bitch” and “Juice”. What I admire about the song “Tropics Brimix” featuring Dallas hip-hop artist Pat- Ron and Sleazy Ea$e, is that it doesn’t sound like a regular song with features, it sounds like a song recorded with three homies that know how to feed off of each other. Usually, people would like a song like Tropics Brimix because it contains two other well known artists but in this case Brionne stands out and kills it. I’m not sure how that collaboration came about but from my standpoint, it almost sounds like Pat Ron or Sleazy Ea$e asked her for a feature. I really enjoy how she “talks her shit” in the song “Nappy”, l swear I felt every bar she spit. “Shade” is a definite banger for sure, it’s the type of song I’ll have on full blast and let the 808’s knock my speakers out while I pull up to the function. Overall I enjoy Brionne’s ep. I’m curious to what else she has in store for the future. I’m glad I gave it a listen. Thank you Brionne!!!
