Music Review: Ashxs “Bitch I’m From Texas” ep

For those who don’t know: Ashxs (Ashes) is a recording artist from Ft Worth, Tx with an awesome neck tattoo, an eccentric discography and is also a dope skater. Recently, Ashxs released an ep “Bitch I’m From Texas”, accompanied with a music video shot by Reel Bump.

The very first thing I noticed was the ep cover, the title of this ep is in the generic “death metal” style font. It’s a familiar and relatable visual to me, considering my punk/hardcore/ death metal background. Obviously, it fits Ashxs, as he is also from a similar background.
The ep is only 6 songs and roughly 15 mins long. It’s perfect for my short attention span but ironically I was left wanting more. Short projects has its place in this generation; it compels you to replay a song repeatedly. What I appreciate about Ashxs’ music in general is that it’s as unique as he is. From the style, lyricism, vocals and beat selections, his music is truly his artistry.
Majority of the ep is produced by Sproutz, with the exception of songs “Ft Worth” produced by Citre3s and “Scummy” produced by Rush. My 1st favorite track from the ep would be “Bitch I’m From Texas”. I felt it was sonically radical way to represent the Lone Star, courtesy of his metalcore vocals on the track. His recent move to Los Angeles doesn’t phase his true Texan spirit. My 2nd favorite track would have to be “ Drug Dealer Music”. I really appreciate the lyricism along with the eerie, industrial-esque style beat. All in all, I enjoy the ep. I enjoy it enough to keep it saved on my Spotify playlist .
