Madeline’s 21st Birthday

It was a chilly Friday night in February as I was cruising through Oak Cliff in Dallas, heading towards Tradewinds Social Club: a low key dive bar off of Davis St that resembles the old Red Blood Club in a very few ways (it’s small, it’s dark and is often infested with metalheads). Nonetheless, the bar gave me a familiar “ welcome back” feel to it. It was excited to see Madeline and her beloved boyfriend, Kombat’s front man Nathaniel. My first encounter with Madeline was in South Dallas at our mutual Hayley’s house. It was a bright afternoon (from what I remember) and on that day we were brainstorming ideas for BORED MAGAZINE. From there on, after another year passes, I assumed she was at least 23 years old. It wasn’t until I viewed the birthday party flyer and realized I was wrong . To be honest, it took me by surprise.

As soon I walked into the establishment, I was greeted by Madeline, Nathaniel and Todd Thompson. After a short conversation and an introduction to Nathaniel’s family and Madeline’s family, I tip toed towards the back to watching the screening of The Beyond. Needless to say, that movie was a 80’s gory trip. The remainder of the night went by pretty smooth: familiar faces filled the bar with friendly vibes and each band that performed did an awesome job. Unfortunately, I had to leave early so I missed Kombat. All in all it was a pleasure to witness Madeline’s smile as she was surrounded by friends and family that love and adore her.
