Saturday Double Feature

Spring 2021 is beautiful so far, despite my seasonal allergies. In the past weeks, new music has sprouted from local artists like the blossoming Texas Bluebonnet made its way to the airwaves and grabbing a hold of fans and new listeners. Let check out a couple recent releases that has caught my attention recently.
Mikul- Stories of a Pimp Vol 2
Coming in hot with 13 songs deep with the duration of 36 minutes, Stories of a Pimp Vol 2 is the continuation of Vol 1 & manages to not skip a beat. Mikul’s talent in capturing the essence of deep Southern 90’s hip hip along the intertwinement of modern elements goes unnoticed. Stories of a Pimp Vol 2 is a bit more polished than its predecessor but maintains the same energy and cadence throughout the project. The project starts in a similar fashion with heavy 500 Gwap Gang members occupying the beginning with two more external features, Boy You Lame feat Christian Mingle & Watch Your Back feat Kooliad, before Mikul ends the latter half of the project with solo tracks, with the exception of Aye Aye Freestyle featuring Frankslim. Selective catchiness, moderate usage of slowed parts, primitive 808’s and signature flow, Stories of a Pimp Vol 2 gets two thumbs up and give me new music to execute kickflips to. Check out Vol 2 on preferred streaming platform.
Lil $ega- SuperJit
Lil Sega teams up with Drako Beats for the three pack ep Super Jit, available on Spotify. For a cool 5 mins, Lil Sega comes in charging with his relentless and energetic flow topped of with colorful and animated bars that caused me to repeat the ep over and over. The song I don’t doze off features a melodic aspect to Lil Sega’s artistry that I didn’t expect but it fits well enough to where it doesn’t sound peculiar or out of place.
