Music Review: Rain Check ‘s newest ep “Relief”

Coming in with the heat from Abilene, Tx is the alternative rock band Rain Check. In early November, the band released an ep titled “Relief”, available on Apple and Spotify and is their highly anticipated second release.

Following their first ep release “Things Change” in 2017, it seems as if though the band developed a sense of maturity since then. The ep contains 6 songs and it’s roughly 15 mins.  Sonically, they stay true to the melodic  post hardcore sound as you can tell that the band is heavily influenced by bands such Title Fight and Thrice. As I listen to the ep through and through, the vocals are reminiscent and can be compared to early to mid 2000’s alternative bands in my opinion. I admire the song “Lost” and “Glass” for the switch in the vocal tone/ style. “4.13.19” contains shoegaze  and dream pop qualities without vocals. Judging by the sound quality, “Relief” has some pretty good mixing/ mastering /engineering.
