Love You Later 'How many nights do you dance with tears in your eyes?'

I had no clue about Love You Later prior to the first time I watched them perform. I convinced my 9 y.o. Audrina to tag along with me to attend an instameet; a gathering of photographers and videographers at a predetermined place to do what they do best with our cameras and network. This wasn’t a regular instameet though, this instameet contained 50 vendors and had live performances, located at the art gallery/venue Deep Ellum Art Company. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon. Eventually, we gravitated outside and sat in front of a women with a decent singing performing her last few songs. After a short while of people watching and Audrina using my phone to spend her attention on what is now TIK TOK, Love You Later arrived on stage. A group of young Caucasian hipster girls scurried to the front in a huddle, eager to witness their performance. I noticed Audrina paying attention to the female- fronted band almost immediately as they started to play. It was then that I decided to bring her closer to the band. The first thing that caught my attention was the singer’s soothing, “girl next door” voice echoing in the air. I felt how vulnerable she was, along with a sense of innocence as she sang from her heart. I had no choice but to embrace it. The band sounded like music I could take on a road trip, like 80’s soft rock sprinkled with a mid 90’s vibe. I was safe to say that Audrina and I really enjoyed their set. There was no way I couldn’t forget Love You Later’s distinctive sound

Months later, I had the pleasure of sharing a brief conversation with singer Lexi Aviles about a little background history, influences and future plans of Love You Later:

Let’s start from beginning with a little background history: where’s Love You Later originally from, names of each band member, how everyone got together, etc

My name is Lexi Aviles and I am the brainchild of solo project, Love You Later. Love You Later is my solo project and essentially my baby - it’s so precious to me and is such a huge part of who I am now. I grew up and established my solo project in Southern California. I'm based in both LA and Nashville now - currently living in Nashville. It’s such a great city to be right now especially since the pop scene is quickly emerging and it’s so enticing.

What are some of your musical influences that inspired Love You Later? Are there any other influences outside of music that inspired the band?

My heavy musical influences are The Japanese House, Bleachers, and Fleetwood Mac. Other influences include Flor, Troye Sivan, Paramore, Julien Baker, The 1975, and Halfnoise. And the 80’s and 90’s eras have definitely inspired Love You Later a whole lot. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong time.

In the process of making the album “ How many nights do you dance with tears in your eyes”, what was going in your personal life that inspired the lyrics on the album

I was definitely going through a lot of hard times learning how to deal with my pain and whole lot of unrequited love. I was also in a huge 80’s phase at the same time and that era was always very shimmery and colorful, so I tried to romanticize my pain and heartbreak so that it was more appealing and relatable to the audience.

What’s in the future for Love you Later? More music, more shows/tours?

As for now until the end of 2018, I’m playing more Sofar acoustic shows in cities I’ve never been to, in the process of putting together an LA holiday show, and recording and releasing more music before the release of my second EP which is set to release early 2019. I’m very excited for what’s to come.
